This bill would not divide New York into 3 states, it would be 3 autonomous regions with separate regional legislatures within a single state. NYC would still control the state's electoral college votes.

Upstate is heavily right leaning but demoralized, this change could give them hope and get them out to the polls, the state could flip if the republicans here were given hope for change and a reason to try.
At the very least it will pave the way for a more permanent and official separation into individual states down the road.

We need to split everything along major politcal and demographic lines, letting either group rule over another is wrong, everyone should be given their own space.

If you read the legislation, dutchess would be part of new amsterdam, and therefore upstate. Westchester etc will form a buffer between us as another autonomous area
