WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. -- Students at underperforming Detroit public schools have a constitutional right to literacy, a federal appeals court ruled Thursday.
"The court in Cincinnati took a bold step today in recognizing a fundamental constitutional right of access to literacy and in doing so has given hope to the school children in Detroit who were so neglected for so long,” said Carter Phillips, a co-counsel with Los Angeles-based Public Counsel who represents the students named in the lawsuit.

There was a study where they made grades competitive. Every students grades were posted in the front of the classroom and ranked.
The grades of boys improved massively The girls did not improve at all. There have been literally hundreds of thousands of studies on methods to improve education. Literally nothing works. So this result was extremely impressive.
But no US classroom will ever do it because it's considered unethical. It makes the dumb kids feel bad and violates their privacy. And it doesn't help girls, only boys. Bleh.
Also spaced repetition software has been proven to be extremely effective. It is used almost nowhere. Literally the most important fundamental concept in human learning. And most teachers don't even know about it

BTW the state of "education research" is hilarious in itself. Literally millions of dollars go into these "studies" run by incredibly corrupt organizations.
They will come up with some plausible sounding idea for a study. A real example, they were going to give every kid an ipod touch (back when those were cool and expensive) if they got good grades. They would spend god knows how much money on this program. There was no control group. There was no standardized test, just their school grades. The kids that didn't get good grades were eventually given an ipod touch anyway because that was only fair.
