What is the best way to learn? Is it specific to the area you live?
Aiden Jones
Reading, working out and cooking. Satiate the mind, the body, and the belly.
Alexander Roberts
The area you live in is absolutely the starting point. I live in a rain forest so I have massive diversity to study: most people have significantly less species in their area making it easier.
There are regional field guides that are well written and don't obligate learning too much taxonomy (rote memorization). There are lots of herbal remidy books out there as well that are also, usually, regional.
What region are you in? Mycology could also be useful if you don't have lots of plant species diversity.
Aiden Gonzalez
the word "unironically" annoys me very much
Anthony Jones
Add bong rips and that is exactly what im doing. Getting shredded brah
Carson Cruz
Im in the north east reagion. Specifically south jersey. Mix of coniferous and deciduous forests in my area, seems diverse but Im no expert. I'm lucky to live in the more "rural" part of NJ lol.
Evan King
Absolutely start with the trees IMHO. The plants usually can be found by following the trees they live around and even deciduous trees can usually be identified year round while flowers and bushes are usually only identifiable once they go into bloom.
Native Plants of the Northeast : A Guide for Gardening and Conservation might be a good one to check out of the library when they open.
You're in a good spot: I would defiantly dig in to mycology where you're at. I'm pretty sure you've morals at the very least.
I see a bunch of NE medicinal plants books i'd check out as well.
Off the top of my head I know you can make syrup from many of your trees, you've access to morals, and you have things like All Heal, and Wild Lettuce (Lactuca Virosa or Lactuca Serrolia)
Jack Fisher
Thanks Ill check that out

Poke salad berries are honest-to-the-Almighty the cure to arthritis. Collect them en-masse in the spring, stick them in the freezer, then take one a day with a shot of whisky (water if you're a responsible faggot) at the beginning of every day until arthritis is gone. It might sound out there but the reason pharmacies haven't publicized this is that treating arthritis and allowing crippling pain to the elderly breaks the bank. I don't care much because boomers have made their bed but arthritis is endemic to my family and it's seriously helped us out.
Dylan Smith
I like stinging nettles for my arthritis. They are abundant for me in an unpolluted gathering area and I can use them for food and medicine.
Western medicine is a joke--yew trees cure cancer: not man made radiation.
We've lost more plant medicine secrets than the modern health cartels will ever allow to enter mainstream. Pretty sure An apothecary properly run create infinity better community health than any walk in clinic.
Nathaniel Roberts
>Poke salad
We call it pokeweed. I'd understood it to be poisonous. Never knew you could eat it.

There are several plants that are poisonous if unprocessed--yew for example. There are other plants that are dangerous because they have lookalikes. Cow parsnips and dougla's water hemlock exemplify all of the above.
