/etm/ - EARTH TO MARS

“You want to wake up in the morning and think the future is going to be great - and that's what being a spacefaring civilization is all about. It's about believing in the future and thinking that the future will be better than the past. And I can't think of anything more exciting than going out there and being among the stars.”
— ELON MUSK, SPACEX

The true future of the European Man & Women is out there amongst the stars! Remember, the 14 Words does not specify where or when our survival is to take place; only that it must.

Welcome to /etm/. This is a place on Yas Forums to discuss everything space related(with a concentration on Mars). I normally post the general once a week every saturday between 8pm to 10pm UK time(I've decided to make a midweek thread today).

ALSO just a reminder; I'll be making a thread to cover the SpaceX manned flight to the ISS in May (set for the 27th)

A completely terraformed Mars would be nice to visit, we could bring deer and fish and other cool animals but leave mosquitos and ticks on earth.

It definitely would, terraformed mars is a long time away though.

>leave mosquitos and ticks on earth.
lol no wasps either

I should have included this video

>What Will SpaceX Do When They Get To Mars?
youtube.com/watch?v=AtK-ieNwYmw

Sup, apes?

hello

I watched this yesterday, it was an alright video

I'll check these out

we had space travel since the 60s and no ones interested at all, fucking no one, not fucking suspicious at all

yeah because the (((US Gov)))) didnt provide NASA with the necessary funding

Nasa gets tons of money it seems pretty fucking clear nasa is an absolute cancer on any chance at space, if its even real

When you going to drop Foundation from the reading list? Add Bruce Sterling’s Crustal Express and Schizmatrix instead. Much more relevant.

Ore that NASA interferes with every private effort until ordered by President Bush to at least pretend to play ball.

whats wrong with the Foundation trilogy. And i'll check out Crustal Express and Schizmatrix

>Nasa gets tons of money

not enough

Attached: IMG_20191027_005220.png (1080x1366, 1.04M)

NASA gets about 0.1% of the annual fed budget and they're always working on multiple projects.
SLS has been a shitshow but that's mostly the fault of politicians, not NASA.

Foundation is very far future, has nothing to do with mars and is part of that weird Positivist Silver Age sci fi from the 60s. The Sterling books are his Shaper-Mechanist cycle and deal with terraforming as a weapon/reality show by post human combatants on Mars and various aspects of life in a developing, violent, competitive solar system.

lol wot

wouldnt it be better to go to one of those moons with oceans under the ice if we're gonna shlep all the way out there anyway?

Sadly this is pure sci-fi since NASA does not have any way of shooting the massive lead encapsulated container that would be needed to pass the van allen belts into space with any significant weight left for cargo.

Unless there’s a rocket factory built on a massive space station this is never happening.

Didn’t trump say that America was going to Mars during his State of the Union? Did anything come of that?

Mars is much closer, has higher gravity, has enough atmosphere to allow aerobraking, and isn't orbiting inside a gas giant's radiation belt.

This Mars is primarily about survival, moons like Europa are about exploration and the search for life in the solar system

It's called the Artemis program now. It's moving along fairly well but the 2024 goal is going to be a squeeze if they manage it.

Well SpaceX are still scheduled for a launch in the mid 20s. I'm not sure what NASA is doing independently

The BFR has a shielded compartment where the crew can wait out heightened exposure to radiation

Alright I'll check out those books

Hate to break it to ya kiddos, but theres a glass sky at the ionsphere, 100km right where the karman line is. its a physical boundary.

Soviets and allies nuked the fucking thing in the 60's

>fishbowl
just a coincidence goyim ..

schizzoids out!

first you got to deal with the emancipated chimpanzee inside your own house shitting and pissing on the walls and floor and raping your wife before you think about leaving the front door, faggot
with the jew's NWO still in charge of the planet your idealisms are going to end up being a bunch of niggers and spics on Mars getting funded with your own tax paying dollars to ship them pizza. fucking dumb cunt
sage

>your idealisms are going to end up being a bunch of niggers and spics on Mars getting funded with your own tax paying dollars to ship them pizza.

Very unlikely. This gets brought up a lot.
Firstly the journey to Mars is in no way comparable to the walk across the US border or the sail across the Mediterranean. Its fucking space. Secondly its vastly too expensive for most darkies.
