Basically this. By sinning (going against divine will, separation from God, whatever) we create a debt, a fine, a punishment proportional to the wrong doing. By betraying god and seeking Satan, we committed the ultimate wrong against the ultimate good. Hence each sinner now has earned a debt he can never pay back, the punishment being death and eternal torment/oblivion to bring back balance. By becoming human (Jesus incarnate) and living a sinless life and incurring no debt to himself (yes), then dying and traveling to hell, God has payed all debts in full. Since his life is infinite, dying where we should have be executed covered every death each should have received. Every debt before his death, every debt yet to come. All sin is now paid forever. By returning himself to life (this I actually buy because it was recorded by the Romans and Jews, same fuckers who killed him) he set the precedent for death not being permanent.

Now we have a new command to follow, trust in the fact that said sacrifice paid your debt, and boom your death won’t be permanent.

Humans have INHERITED sin from Adam. Since we all have Adam's sin we TOO must die. However, that isn't fair because that's not our fault. So God sent his son to die on our behalf so we can be freed of sin. Jesus had to be resurrected because he earned the right to live again. The reason why us humans cannot have such a privilege is because we are both inheritors of Adam's sin and because we sin ourselves. Since Jesus didn't come from Adam he inherited no sin. While alive Jesus committed no sin at all. The payment for sin is death. Since Jesus neither inherited it nor performed it he was worthy of a resurrection. His resurrection allowed him to pay for both Adam's sin and the sins of our own. Thus, now WE are eligible for the same resurrection as Jesus. The difference is that our sin and Adam's sin is covered by him.

God gave is freedom of choice. If you love someone, you let them make their own choices. He did not want to make us like robots that were programmed (forced) to love him, as that would not be real love. We humans have an inclination to do evil. Mankind chose to be and do evil instead of love God. God is a god of laws. His creation has laws, such as the laws of physics, and he is happy to have these laws in place. According to his laws, the penaty for sin is death. Within this framework, God allowed us to sacrifice (put to death) an animal in place of our own death for our own sins (instead of us paying the price, which is death, we would cast it onto the animal). However, this was a thing that had to be repeated, because we repeatedly sinned, and mankind was getting to obsessed with laws and legalism instead of the point which was to love God. So God came as a man, Jesus. He taught us a lot and rebuked the legalism of the Pharisees. Finally, as God had spoken to the prophets throughout the Old Testament (prophesies), Jesus was sacrificed for a permanent forgiveness of the sins of all men. God offered this sacrifice for us, according to his laws, and what we need to do to be forgiven of our sins is to accept the sacrifice that he did for us. Also, if we really love God, we must try our best to be good people. If we say we believe but we don't try to turn away from evil, then we do not actually believe, and so we are not actually forgiven, which means we will suffer from the "second death" and not have eternal life. Those who accept the sacrifice are forgiven and will not die the "second death" in the afterlife, but will have eternal life in heaven in the presence of God.
