Hello Yas Forums. Our world is growing exponentially in regards to technological advancements. As a technocrat and a believer in God, I want to put my efforts towards developing exciting new technology that will change our world forever. Anons here are bright and have a fantastic diversity of thought, so I figured I would pose a question that would spark discussion. What branch of STEM is making the most exciting discoveries, and what will affect the aesthetic and fundamentals of our world most? I am interested in programming, cyber punk aesthetics, sci-fi, space travel, etc. I would like to know what I might be able to put my efforts towards.
Technological Advancements to Make Sci-Fi Reality
agent 99, this is true.
sex bots
Bump for knowledge
Additive manufacturing (3d printing) will revolutionize industries once they're refined and made cheaper with better software. The whole automotive mold industry could be replaced one day with these bots. I intend to break int into the 3d printing sector soon.
I believe we are about to see a huge push and explosion of people creating their own stuff at home through the use of CNC mills/lasers/printing and forging. The amount of knowledge that can be learned online is unlimited, and this quarantine is making people realize they don't need to be such consumers all the time. This is what I hope anyway.
Thank you for this post, user. I like this idea. I personally know some people who are already doing things like this.
Question, do you think that our cities might one day look as advanced as cyber punk aesthetic?
I do not think the cyber punk aesthetic will take hold anytime soon. The modernist twist you are longing for is more of a modern art venture. If you look at the political climate today, it seems we're reverting back in time. I expect more Victorian and Romanesque aesthetics if anything - Do not fret, these will look good as well.
Maybe in 40 years Japan may have the aesthetic you're looking for. Provided its still around.
Interesting. We will see. What do you think about the future of space travel and exploration? What about AI and programming? Will we make leaps and bounds?
I don't want to dim your inspirations but I doubt space travel and exploration are anywhere near possible for the common man today. We are nowhere near Robert Heinlein levels of technology. Our children's' children may see some sort of upper atmosphere travel.
AI is a myth, it is impossible to achieve true artificial intelligence like a human brain. We will not make leaps and bounds in that regard.
One thing I do see taking off is anti-gravity, no pun intended.
>Our world is growing exponentially in regards to technological advancements
No it's not you faggot
>I want to put my efforts towards developing exciting new technology that will change our world forever.
What aspect of society would you change?
You should read about the joint anti-gravity studies done in the 50s by 56 DoD companies and 13 universities. Yeah you'd like that. You'd really like that. They stopped it suddenly in 1958.
They already have it all. If only you knew how fucked things truly are.
That is what I am trying to determine. I dream of one day being on the bridge of a spaceship exploring the stars. Or driving some futuristic vehicle along futuristic highways. I believe I can discover or achieve anything, but I need to decide what that anything is.
thanks sounds interesting. can you give me a place to begin please?
Unless an outside force propels us in those leaps and bounds.
Technology grows. Hunchbacks still picking the veggies that go to market.
> I dream of one day being on the bridge of a spaceship exploring the stars. Or driving some futuristic vehicle along futuristic highways.
do not trust daemons
Thinking more of Ayys, but you're not wrong.
Is it too vague? Or are you saying I already identified my interests.
they are one and the same. we're conditioned to see them as aliens, but theyre evil spirits
compsci and machine intelligence
Perhaps, though maybe there exists a race thats not inherently malevolent, but merely misguided in their sense of purpose. In a way, they're no different from us.
There are certainly malevolent 'spirits', but I believe there exists those of benevolence. Fate will always dictates these things as it should.
Discover that on your own. STEMS alone won't get you into a niche field in which you find yourself a expert in. Programming is kind of a shit job since you'll be dealing with PHBs that don't understand shit and will just keep on telling you to work overtime to get whatever they need out the door and you'll find yourself working for a company that is totally not what you expected.
Your absolute best bet would be to major in something VERY niche, but with an extremely strong tech background. Something like geology (hear me out), specifically for asteroids/moon/comets. I wouldn't even know how to say which STEMs this belongs to, maybe mechanical engineering with a focus on material sciences, along with a minor in geology and computer science or robotics if you can figure that out. keep yourself in tip top shape, maybe join the air force or something else related, then bill yourself as an astro engineer with a focus on space mining to someone other than nasa who will train you to be a mission specialist to get out there and do work on robotic mining or firing out the hard parts of whatever you need to do out there.
The standard programmer will never see the stars, even if you work as a programmer for space x, at least you'll be doing bullshit things. robotics maybe you'll do something cool like be a part of a moon rover building team, but you'll never leave the earth.
Welp, there you go.
I don't get 3D printing. For a couple grand I can get a mold ordered in absolutely any shape that I want that will be able to make thousands and thousands of copies of the piece for pennies each. What use is there for 3D printing. You can't 3D print metal or any hard or durable objects. If it's gonna be made out of plastic then why not just do it the traditional way for a fraction of the price?
>What branch of STEM is making the most exciting discoveries
Sustainable consumer tier manufacturing technology like 3d printing, laser cutting, plastics/metal recycling, alternative energy, etc. Hi-tech homesteading.
unironically smart contracts. they will pave the way for the 4th industrial revolution
This. There's a reason you have nothing and they have everything. And it's not just bad luck.
Programmers programmed themselves out of a job.
CRISPR will literally change the face of mankind in unforeseeable ways. It is to my mind the single technology with the greatest potential to reshape our species future. It's also scary as fuck
Robotics might be your thing. As for what branch does the most interesting stuff, that's entirely subjective. I. for one, love microbiology and genes
Robots baby! They are perpetually “almost here” and will change the world when they finally arrive
Which field will be the first to stumble upon teleportation?
quantum information science
artificial general intelligence
everything else should follow
