From what I understand they are still restricted but the government has been fighting to make them prohibited. Also there is 5 round max, but people can use 30 roung mags that are pinned, so if you wanna go on a shooting spree you just take the pins out.

Summary:
Non-restricted - Rifles, shotguns etc. Can own and safely store, use for hunting or sport shooting or whatever. Bullpup assault rifles also fit under this category for some weird reason.

Restricted - Pistols (10 round max) Assault Rifles (5 round max, semi-auto only). More strict storage requirements, and legally you can only take them to a designated range.

Prohibited - Not allowed.
