Because you can't have a self-sufficient society with private property. Private property inherently needs profit. Which means you have to enter the market. Which means you have to compete with other people to make the most profit. Which means you have to source commodities and labour from where they are cheapest.

I think what he's saying is that if a "left-wing" commune is a place where people live together and pool all property, a "right wing" commune would be a place where people live together and engage in economic trade with each other.
