We re-wrote their constitution, limited the powers of the Emperor, overhauled their education system, disbanded their military, redistributed almost half the arable land, broke up the conglomerates, and allowed freedom for workers to join labor and trade unions along with ensuring basic human rights such as gender equality and freedom of speech and the press.

None of this had anything to do with Japan becoming a free country with one of the strongest economies on the planet. It was all because of whatever this guy with the Nazi flag said about Manchuria.
