There has been a lot of animosity between French and English Canada. To be honest very few people other than boomers actually give a shit about the historical component of the conflict. It's mostly a language and cultural divide now.
QC is exclusively French-speaking, signage everywhere (even in hospitals) is deliberately French-only in order to prevent Anglo influence from eroding the culture. A lot of people find it extreme, I understand the reasons for it though. QC even has a language police to enforce the use of French everywhere.

Anglos tend to be more liberal/progressive, whereas Quebecers are more conservative but not in the same way as the rest of Canadians. Their version of conservativism is really more protectionist than anything, since they have to stick up for themselves in a way that other provinces don't.

The biggest thing to me is the cultural/ideological divide, I can't really put it into words. Quebecers just seem to have a get-it-done attitude that I haven't really seen from other Canadians. They tend to mostly vote for the BQ rather than mainstream political parties.

To answer your question OP, I think Anglo and Francos get along generally a bit better than most people would think. I'm from an Anglo family but I grew up speaking French so I'm kinda caught up in the middle of it. It depends where you go but generally Anglos and Francos are generally pretty polite to each other, and in the media there'll be the occasional threat of Quebec separating or the Feds cutting funds to Quebec to maintain the illusion of hostility.

People on this board would have you think otherwise, with their calls for REEeeeEEE CIVIL WAR NOW, but at the end of the day we are brothers.
