He said in his manifesto he'd plead not guilty, and he did at first. The change in his plea is most likely due to his legal representative "advice", who most likely wants to get him in prison anyway.

In all likelihood the government probably made that decision for him. The whole point in pleading not guilty was to force a trial that would inevitably be very public. The government wouldn't give him a platform to explain or legitimise his actions. Remember how hard they cracked down on the internet over his manifesto? A public trial would be a nightmare to keep censored.
