Dear Americans, what is it that you like about America? I really want to know, because you seem to claim that your country is the best in the world quite often. As an outsider that seems kind of hard to grasp, because you don't have an old and complex history full of myths and events that sculptured every niche of your country and cultivated the spirit of your nation.
Is it Democracy? I'm not personally a fan of it to be honest. Is it more material stuff (I know you Americans are very materialistic) like your big military, the sheer size of your country, being able to make a lot of money, being able to own guns, etc... or what is it that you think makes your country the best?
I'm also not so found of your aesthetics, but that's quite subjective. You might like them.

Yes we do, but that's not really what I mean. Swiss people tend to have a less materialistic mind, we don't care about money as much (even though we have a lot). Yes actually, I do have to drive 20 minutes to town but of the three grocery stores in my town of ~3000 one is a “local chain” and two are national. non-chains are anything other than groceries so it’s not totally dominated by big box business.

I'm 95% sure that's the city I live in (San Antonio) and it is way more than highway offramps. I grew up in northern Virginia and it sucked. But here ppl are nice, homes are cheap, BBQ and texmex is good, I live within walking distance of a beautiful duckpond park, corner store, CVS, and neighborhood market. But my neighborhood does not have a urban sprawl or suburban hell feel. It has more of a KOTH feel to it.

America n Music/Movies or entertainment in general is heavily influencing EU/Western countries. We also buy from American stores, we buy american products (ie Apple, Microsoft) and we care a great deal about what goes on in American (Politics/News).

What exactly do you think are American "aesthetics"? I find it strange when people from rather small countries seem to think that America should function and look the same as theirs. Your pic, for instance, from what I can tell is sort of just the outskirts of a city. It's not how all of America looks. America has thousands and thousands of miles of more rural and open land where people have quaint communities and small towns, and suburban towns, etc.
Arrogant as it sounds, I really do feel like most of you simply are unable to fathom how large the US is and what that means. It would take me probably 7 hours to drive across my state alone and there's towns of towns, communities and cities along the way.
Keep in mind, I would argue that Switzerland is probably the best country on Earth because I like how your political system is set up where the cantons are quite separate.
Also, most Americans don't go around saying all the time we are the best. Most people are just focused on their own lives.

I think I know now what disturbs me a bit when looking at America. Here in Switzerland if you travel from a city to the rural areas and the to where there's only nature, it feels like you're time travelling. There's a gradual decrease of the impact of modernity and a more increasing harmony with nature. In America I just don't see that. There's a harsh clash of complete wilderness and a very modern man.
The ancestors of my people have been in contact with these lands and you can see traces of that everywhere. To me there's a spiritual connection between that old village made out of wood cabins and the mountains and forests that surround it. In America, it just seems like man has been thrown into that nature to which he has no connection to (unless you're a native American).

I don't know about every American's experience, but in my personal experience, I love the people of my country. I have lived most of my life in the American southeast (Mississippi, Louisiana, South and North Carolina) and now live in Wyoming. I love the people I have lived around in these states. Free thinking, independent, hard working, helpful and friendly. Also courageous. I don't have much experience with city people. I have spent most of my life living in small towns or rural areas. I love the vastness of my country and the freedom to move about that the size provides. I can see forests, deserts, mountains, plains, and many other types of landscapes. I love our freedom to express ourselves and to do what we want. Yes, there are restrictions, but even compared to many other Western nations, we Americans enjoy a level of freedom to be who we want and to speak/think asI love how friendly, helpful, and outgoing Americans are as well. I lived through Hurricane Katrina on the MS coast. It was a disaster. Nearly everything was destroyed or damaged. People from all over the country flooded into our area and into Louisiana to help us. They donated items, money, and most of all time to getting us back on our feet. I'll never forget how in such a dark and devastating moment the people of this country came together to help us. Even people from places that seemed to vilify Southerners came out in droves to assist.
