Let me know how a mortality rate of 0.2% (90% of which are old and close to death) results in 1 billion deaths.
Even if 70% of the world gets corona (highly unlikely) we are looking at max 10 million deaths (9 million of which would be dying of other causes anyway in the next months).
More likely a herd immunity approach would be lowering the overall death count.

Not any more. We stopped using ventilators, it is the wrong strategy. We use remdesivir immediately and oxygen through the nose. We have a very high success rate with that. Only 5% of our ICU beds are occupied by corona patients... at 2k new cases per day.

70% gets infected, 95% of them healthy people, You still protect the elderly and sick.
The hospitalization rate goes up, but not by much because people below 60 without serious health issues don’t have to be hospitalized.
Once the general population hits herd immunity, the virus just goes away as the infection rate drops massively.
Now compare that to a country with just 5-10% immune people. You open the economy back up and the virus comes back in force.
