Maybe it's because people who come out of school with horror stories get marked for disposal instead of triggering school policy renovations. The problems always have to be scapegoated onto crime, parenting, race, even guns, but never the school system itself. The schools are too sacred to junk the data gathered from them.

There are probably some high schools here that give a better education than some colleges.

My wife is a teacher. Here’s her list:
1. Parents not preparing their kids for school or society.
2. Parents not making their kids study
3. Parents only caring about their children’s sports endeavors
4. Sure there’s some shitty teachers, but the majority aren’t.
5. State testing is a jobs program. It’s like building a house and then you must take a test to see if you can build a house.
6. If I placed the students from a failing school into a private school and the private school kids in the failing school the grades would remain the same.
7. Shitty kids create a shitty school.
8. Schools refuse to kick the trash out due to funding.
9. My wife taught in a ghetto school. She was on antidepressants. Now she’s at an upper middle class school and off of them. It’s the kids. Ghetto kids don’t try as they only want welfare or disability.

I think it's trusted to self-report, and all its dictates are guarded by "we value integrity over all things" (which is not exactly the same thing as integrity). The school systems can't be criticized by the exact people they fail most dearly.

In recent decades, the school system in the USA failed millions of "worthless" students, whose worthlessness was "proven" when they "didn't grow up" and "went nowhere". All those people who couldn't fit into society...

If you look at what kids of today aspire to be, they mostly want to be vloggers or social media "Influencers," which are jobs that you don't need much school to do.
