What do you guys think the core female story is and what is the POLITICAL implications of it's changing principles in modern media? Are there any legitimate arguments against it being Belle?
What do you guys think the core female story is and what is the POLITICAL implications of it's changing principles in...
belle is so hot
Interesting that you are so attracted to a cartoon character. Why do you think that is? What about her makes her attractive to you?
I do want to juxtapose this concept with the modern view of the female aspiration. It is completely different. Why the change? What politically drove this shift over time?
Ariel is also a great example of the female story.
Do you know where you are?
I think there are multiple stories and only some of them are successful in creating more females.
That is a man. The hands and jacked up feet never lie.
Very excellent analysis. Wouldn't you say that the stories (or at least their cores) that did create more females would be more likely to be passed down the generations as folk tales and myths? Couldn't this then be a guide at the deciphering the core truth underneath (that information in a story is primarily to increase reproductive success / survival). This would mean you could rank order stories by their innate "truth" (Fitness). In this regard would not Mary / Eve / Belle be at the top?
I highly doubt that.
having a loving dad, rejecting a douche chad who pursues you then being held prisoner in a castle by a furry majestic strong animal you can feel sorry for being an asshole which brings out the good charming prince in him and then getting married and being a kept woman?
sounds about right
Hands and jacked up feet? Pics pls.
The difference between the beast and Gaston is much deeper than this. Her selection is primarily for self consciousness. That is the fundamental difference between the 2 characters. Gaston has not integrated his Shadow. He is not aware of the monster he is. The Beast on the other hand can't help but see it. And in his self reflection he is capable of self improvement and transformation. Belle selects for this quality. Its the same quality that Maurice (her father) showed her. As an inventor he does this daily in front of her.
You posted this earlier and my answer is still the same
Since the thread got moved to Bant, could you refresh my memory as to why she is your answer? I am not even sure who she is.
Its pretty close to being an accurate and realistic female type of hero, for a cartoon. She doesn't use fighting skills or brute force like a man, she likes books (so many girls today love books). She is pretty and lady like. She loves her father and protects him (the only men a woman ever truly loves is father or son). And most importantly she marries a rich guy with a castle (hypergamy) Meanwhile before the rich guy came a long she was content being a single like most 30 yo american women.
It's not Lum you weeb. Read a book.
That doesn't explain her rejection of Gaston though. He had high status in the town (Hypergamy). Why reject him?
Basically she's just a beautiful girl who has an unexplainable love for an arsehole even though she has many better options. That's it
Urusei yatsura is paperback
What is it about the arsehole that makes her choose him? What does he posses that others lack?
I thought about this too. It is just a movie so real life logic doesnt always apply. But the prince was still richer and more attractive after he was cured. Could be a tool to show shes not "like those other girls" and special because she doesn't care for the popular boy all the others want.
Nothing, it's very realistic Tbh
...seriously? Why not just say "sailor moon" and get it over with.
Wtf is a sailor moon?
You don't think self consciousness is the difference? The beast is hyper masculine, just like Gaston. Top of his hierarchy, just like Gaston. The only difference between them is how they react to their own reflection. Gaston loves himself and can see no faults. This means he is not self conscious and will never improve. The beast can only see his faults (the monster he is). Therefore he is capable of transformation and self improvement. He is self conscious. This is basically Eve's story. Belle's choice is Eve offering Adam the apple.
What does
>core female story
Even mean? What do you think the
>core male story
Is?
90s era cartoon for girls.
Oh golly, would you look at that. We have an actual "intellectual" in our midst.
*pulls you aside and whispers*
Alright, bitch that's enough. Slide ONE (1) more thread and I swear to god that you'll fucking WISH that you never crossed paths with me
Who are you replying to, fren?
The core male story is essentially the Hero's journey. It is most fully formed in the story of Christ. In the Christian sense, Christ is the highest aspiration for all.
By core story, I mean it encapsulates the aspirational mode of being.
You. My bad.
Kek.
Ah, ok
Well Lum, bell and Jesus definitely aren't 'core' characters
Not trying to slide anything. I am looking to invalidate this theory. If you disagree with the assertion please let me know why. More than anything I want the idea to be challenged.
>That doesn't explain her rejection of Gaston though.
Someone else already answered that.
