People take the most outrageous or weird CIA files from the 60's and extrapolate them to what happens now. The CIA is literally our primary line of defense against the chinks, I think it's pretty impressive how quickly they rebuilt their influence in the country because in 2010 their spy ring was exposed and everyone operating within the country was executed by the CCP.
Now they're powerful enough to agitate and organize the Hong Kong riots, as well as organize all of western media to pay attention to it. Literally every single enemy of the US is paranoid about glow in the darks, Maduro blames them for everything like Guaidio, Xi blames them for everything from Tianemen Square to Hong Kong, Putin blames them for everything from the fall of the USSR, to Chernobyl, to Euromaidan, North Korea blames them for the failed rocket test a year or two ago, Iran blames them for Soulimani's death and everything else that goes wrong in Iran
They've fucked up plenty of times don't get me wrong, but overall they strike fear into the enemies of the US for a reason. They are the most technologically advanced and effective intelligence agency in the world
