Hi Brutus
Interesting. Would you recommend kali linux?
I'm a retard with computers and have always used Windows/Android products. I assume I would be useless with Linux. Is Mac a good alternative.
No. Fuck your kike-made shitware.
Alright then. Recommend me the purest OS possible but having functionality.
Nah I can't see any good reason to use kali when you can install all Kali's packages on Debian
But if you want muh hacking OS I'll say ParrotOS is better then Kali.
Debian and Ubuntu (both of which have multiple variations) are good for general users.
Tails for high-security purposes,.
What is macos
...
Pop OS is pretty unique.
Linux mint is more like a classic desktop.
If you want to game with new releases and minimal issues just use Windows
TempleOS
this ain't /g/ nigger. you have no power here
I've been running various linux distros since the windows 98 service pack 2 "upgrade" blue-screened my system. Luckily I had an ubuntu iso sitting around, installed it and haven't looked back.
I've migrated, ubuntu>mint>debian stable> fedora. I would recommend anyone interested in dabbling with linux to use a virtual machine. I (unironically) love fedora with the cinnamon DE, but it probably isn't a great distro if you're new to linux unless you're really patient and willing to put in a lot of time. I would recommend mint to a total linux novice.
Temple OS you heretical niggers
Linux distros have become way more user friendly than they used to be. Also, since you use an Android phone, you're already familiar with the general procedure on handling common software installs; Linux uses a software manager you download your stuff from and install, as opposed to the Windows routine of downloading and running executable installer.
I switched over to Mint when win7 stopped getting support. It's fine.
>tfw you fell for the gentoo meme
if you want to learn how it is built, Arch or Gentoo, starting from a minimal image and building everything from there
else, Fedora for the desktop and CentOS for servers
debian has long turned to shit: as deep as possible in sjwism fucktardry and still digging, while being updated too slow for the desktop and still too fast for servers
ubuntu is half assed shit through and through
I've been windows free since 1997 or so.
Linux mint is the best for noobs and non power users. It looks good, has a lot of guis, and is very intuitive. It can also run on anything. I'm using a 2009 core 2 duo with 4 gb of ram and a hdd and it still runs faster than any new sub $500 windows computer out there.
it's great for learning, if you start from a minimal image and build everything from there
that's how I learnt almost two decades ago, and am glad it's how I went: the experience is invaluable
using Fedora and CentOS, now (what else, really?)
Who the fuck cares my Windows is cracked anyway (yours too ikr)
The only distros worth using are Fedora and Gentoo...
CentOS too, user
>way more user friendly than they used to be.
Indeed, much easier to find help now too.
>software manager
I was stubborn about learning the command line, but now ctrl + t and "sudo dnf upgrade" and all updates are installed on my fedora box and I don't have to use any software manager or gui.
I can't claim any particular distro as a winner. Most are based on Red Hat or Debian. The desire for hacking tools is not my interest either.
All I can really say is that I'd love to have a full suite of business apps that would allow me to break away from Microsoft in entirety and with a degree of confidence.
For server apps:
I still don't see a good open source mail server that has an easy GUI administration tool. I don't want to have to work at the command prompt all day managing Postfix configurations.
I don't see any Active Directory integration software that actually works and is free. Samba pretty much requires one to dumb down Windows machines to CIFS 1.0 compatibility.
I shouldn't have to say this twice. GUI tools for admin!!! Programmers can work at the command line but jack-of-all-trades administrators can't waste that much time.
Stop getting in a pissing contest with admins who don't want your shoddy cloud support.
Other gripes:
I don't see any real effort to get OpenGL performance and support to a level that will get gamers to commit to Linux.
There's too many standards. Finding packages that will run right on all of them is impossible. Package managers aren't even standardized!
>Would you recommend kali linux?
Asking this question is the surefire mark of a pajeet. They're obsessed with it for some reason. Also, the answer to your question is no.
If you're after "pure" whilst still functional, probably Void, Gentoo, Artix, or FreeBSD. OpenBSD, a Solaris derivative, Haiku, 9front, or NixOS/Guix if you're very autistic and want more "purity" than function. None of these are going to be particularly user-friendly.
If you want something "OOTB", then just go with Ubuntu (or a derivative), Mint, or Manjaro. Arch-based distributions like Manjaro are nice since you get access to the AUR, which has such a ridiculous amount of software that it helps ease the transition away from Windows.
TempleOS is the only acceptable choice
I'm personally running Pop_OS with KDE Plasma as my DE. Pretty comfy desu.
Use Veracrypt to encrypt your drives, it's open-source and state-of-the-art, and it's free.
Use a VPN, if you can't afford a good VPN like OpenVPN and aren't stupid set up Wireguard. If like me you are stupid then just find a list of leaked NordVPN accounts online. You'll eventually find one that works.
Your base distro doesn't really matter this much, as you can change the DE whenever your want (i.e. Pop_OS comes with a modified version of Gnome but KDE is the white patrician's choice desu).
What matters are the drivers and the apps that are shipped with it.
If you are new to Linux I suggest starting with Ubuntu (most popular, good UI, drivers are less recent for security purposes and shipped with Gnome), Mint (very good, as popular as Ubuntu, look a lot like Windows, Cinnamon is a very good DE, the to-go just werks™ distro) or Kubuntu (Ubuntu but with KDE so much better).
Pic related is the base KDE desktop. It is good. Looks and acts mostly like Windows, but customizable to your wishes.
What also depends is your GPU. If you are new to Linux and don't want to have much headaches or problems go with the above-mentionned distros.
But if you don't mind trading stability for recent software go with Manjaro (with KDE of course).
Manjaro is based on Arch, so you are bound to have a few problems, but honestly it is a 100% worth it.
If you have a Nvidia GPU go with Pop_OS. It is basically Ubuntu but modified, and it comes with better, dedicated drivers for Nvidia GPUs.
I'll post more as I think but this is already long enough desu.
Obligatory memeflag, I don't want to get traced by Jewgle anymore.
>ring 3 is for niggers
Why is he so perfect? TD died for our memes
Solus is a great distro but God damn i got tired of fucking with linux's bullshit to get games go work.
Forgot to say about Manjaro, it is most recommended to use it with a AMD GPU. I tried myself to install it with a Nvidia GPU and it's mostly just thinking what could have gone wrong. But if you are resilient enough you could make it work.
no it's not a desktop distro it's for pretending you're a hacker sperg.
how are you not bored with games yet? it's all the same shit. nothing new has been done for years.
Was going to post about that.
On Linux these days there are dedicated software for games that exist. If you want to launch your games, install Wine and then Lutris. Lutris is a open-source software that gives you access to community-made installations of games with everything set-up to work on Linux. It's very good, and I can actually play games that aren't normally available on Linux.
>mfw there's a desktop thread on Yas Forums
*ahem*
FUCK BILLY
FUCK (((MICRO$OFT)))
FUCK WINDOWS FAGGS
Reject proprietary software
Install Memejaro.
Pimping hard here.
comfy MacFaggot since 1998.
>Microsoft : not even with a stick
Based Manjaro KDE user. What games do you run with that GT 730 user? Also, did you have this bug when finishing the installation and rebooting, that it would just give you a black screen then reboot? If yes, how did you fix it? Was it the boot flag that wasn't set?
I've tried various flavours of Linux over the years and never managed to get any of them to do anything useful or fun.
Also, trying to find help on line, when my wireless just didn't even show up, or my graphics card insisted that 640x480 was the max it could do, or all my drives needed to be 'mounted' like it's 19fucking71 and we're in the basement of some Uni CS lab from 50 years ago.
It's not even a toy - it's something masochists use to hurt themselves with, and when other people go "Ow, fuck, that hurts!" they get accused of not being sufficiently nerdy to use a real computer, if you can't just write your own printer driver in 20 minutes.
I lie to WIndows. It thinks I'm an 87-year-old Abyssinian woman. It does, however, just work.
>have always used Windows/Android products
Why are you using kike software m8?
I like linux mint with cinnamon desktop. It runs browser, file manager, metronome, pdf reader, password manager, everything one needs. Been using linux since 2003.
Go with a BSD distro.
It's not infected with license virus.
Basado. Mint is the white patrician's just werk™ distro desu.
I don't play a lot of gaymes. I just have one, Modern Warfare 3 and I use a dedicated server client to play multiplayer via wine. For that boot thing I didn't have any problem installing it, It just werks on my pc and my laptop.
>ancap flag
>uses Linux
Why are memeflags so retarded?
Alright, thanks user.
how does linux violate the NAP?
