Who would have guessed that we diminish capabilities that are now covered by technology? Well actually most historians would. Our accounts and biological measurements seem to indicate earlier humans were far better at grasping their surroundings, quite literally making better and more frequent use of their senses, from hearing to smelling but also including spatial viewing and such.
In the end we had no reason to believe intelligence was any different. Now that we can make up for a lack of rationality with smartphones and computers, we should indeed see a downward trend in the "manual" use of it. And really, this can only become critical when and if it ensues collapse - until we are collectively capable of rebuilding these systems, we're safe.

A couple things. Does it really matter? AI will soon take over everything. People cant comprehend just how fast this will happen, and how smart it will be. In 5 to 10 years AI will be about as smart as a regular person, and in 10 to 15 years ir will be smarter than the smartest person who ever lived. After that it will do everything.
