The funny (in a fuck this kind of way) part of all this is that I was about 5 months from finishing my PhD when this hit. I've been grinding away with no GF, barely any friends, in the belly of globohomo beast for almost 5 years. Because when I suspected that a 'nonessential' worker lockout was coming to the university I work for, I took it as an excuse to leave early to attend a family wedding in my hometown. As I was making the drive there I got the email that we'd been locked out of our building and police were turning people away from campus. I could return to my apartment, but I feel like my family needs me here at the moment. I loaded my car down with dry food, fuel, water treatment, ammo, and PPE I bought up before and during the superbowl to give them a fighting chance when I drove out. I'm also their main man power in getting garden plots tilled and running. I'm also in a small town, compared to spitting distance from Denver.

Eventually the economy will reopen. When that happens, why not go back to work near your university? Worse that happens is things don't go anywhere with that girl and you choose to stay working near campus or find work back home. I know it sucks that you can't do anything right now, but at least this situation is probably keeping her from dating anyone too. If she was single before, she will probably still be single once things begin to somewhat get back to normal.
