Utilizing only the popular vote (first past the post/majority rules) to decide the President would be the worst thing to ever happen to American politics.
It would essentially mean that candidates would do fuckall with 90% of the country and would focus all of their efforts on extremely high population density areas. It would rob rural and lower population states out of their voice, and would effectively mean that the President would be held solely to the whims of big cities like NYC and San Francisco.
The Electoral College makes it so that candidates have to pay attention to every state in the union, and have to hear their concerns.

it works in the US because their states have more individual power than our provinces do here in Canada and they proper distribution of elected officials per state. Their whole political system revolves around being a republic, a constitutional republic to be exact.
In Canada it's completely different, the federal government has alot more power and influence and our distribution of # of elected MPs favours cities instead of rural areas.
Also fun fact: the word democracy doesn't appear once in the constitution.

I have nothing against replacing the voting system, but if you meme the fucking "instant run-off voting" bullshit, your ass belongs in the trash with your opinions.
Instant run-off voting was an idea from the 1800's. It overcomes one of the "bugs" with first past the post but it introduces another, arguably worse, bug in the process. It's also all the liberals have been shilling in the past 10 years, so I know it's a bad idea.
Condorcet votes are the mathematical best but nearly impossible. Ranked voting is second-best but really hard to employ and would confuse voters.
Approval voting is the best balance between ease of use (can even use current ballots) and improved outcome. Approval voting is the ONLY new voting system I support.

We need approval voting, you fucking nigger. "Proportionally based" is a nonsense term. It literally means nothing when talking about candidates. Because unlike in your pea-brain world people's ideals don't align 100% with "their" candidate and diverge 100% from "the other" candidate. People have different believes on different opinions, and the only way to properly reflect that is to acknowledge that an array of candidates are "good enough"
