On the subject of self defense, the primary concern of the state is and always will be it's monopoly on violence. Every time a citizen defends themself, it proves that the state has failed in some regard to maintain law and order, thus it is in the state's best interest to prove the act was unnecessary. This will always be the case. No matter where you are, if you have to defend yourself, then the government is going to do its absolute best to argue that you didn't need to because the admission that you did inherently undermines the legitimacy of their authority. Florida user here. Gun laws vary by state. In Florida it's relatively easy to get a concealed carry permit, but it must stay concealed. Other states have open carry. Pretty much all states have a castle doctrine law. But also Florida and a few states have a "right to shoot" law. Meaning if you feel you life is in danger, you have the right to shoot them. This is why George Zimmerman was cleared of charges when he shot Obama's son, Tryvon.
