Most of the "coverage" on these (and similar US armors) is soft armor, that won't do dick against rifle rounds while adding a lot of weight. The only part that will stop rifle rounds is the hard ceramic plate you insert into these armors.
Soft armor can be helpful if you're expecting a lot of fragmentation, but if you're mostly concerned about being shot at by guys with rifles, there's an argument for stripping down to just the effective part and being lighter on your feet.
