it may be a CIA psyop now, but only after it got clusterfucked by Chinese and later Russian intel.
I've never seen as much glow activity after maybe 2012 scientology hacked the Yas Forums frontpage (or at least paid some group to hack Yas Forums).
First, the Chinese tried their homegrown shit, using mostly European and American VPN flags. Very basic shit like: it is not so bad, china has everything under control, take your medication, your family is worried about you, only old people, it is just a flu, fake old video. This did not work, as it was very easy to spot the low-pay shill.
Then the sliding started, and it was the most insane sliding that pol had ever seen. Every time a cvg thread got bumped to the front page, within 1 second it was on the second page. The slide threads were low quality, only 1 post by OP, usually some controversial tweet, some tranny and blacked stuff, shit gone wrong in the U.S. but they were effective in drowning out the noise.
2 things that made China shills go insane: talk of bioweapon and talk of people being welded inside their apartments. Videos of people dropping dead and overcrowded hospitals also saw medium shill activity.
It got so bad that Yas Forums created a new algorithm just for pol: New threads would start at the last page, not the first page, only after a minute or 10 would they improve visability. Also bumps by duplicate ID's would not bump the thread, so shills had to constantly change IP's.
Then Russia shill activity got involved. Russians are way better at trolling Yas Forums, due to the Trump elections, pizzagate, BLM, and Mueller investigation. I don't know if Russia saw an opportunity to stir up the hornest nest, or if they were asked for help by China. The Russian ammo was: If you are infected, visit your shopping centers, take the subway, go to the synagogues. Vastly illegal, and sure to rile up the Western intel agencies. They also started the whole: CIA brought virus to Wuhan during military olympics.

Some western intel agencies, by this point, also got involved, to use dispelling of desinformation/propaganda. They had enough ammo for this, seeing they have know-how on how to engage Yas Forums, can create echo chambers, with different controled personas talking to another, and had all the data on the Chinese suppressing the numbers of deaths. Besides, some leaks came out stating that the CDC had knowledge of 1000s of cases in the US in early February, when the government standpoint was still: just a flu, dont crash the economy or cause a bank run plox. This also needed CIA shill activity.
Then the Chinese switched to a new tactic: shitposting. They would absolutely destroy cvg threads with one-liner poopy talk. Going off topic with stupid prepper talk, having flamewars between themselves, acting like stupid Facebook boomers (a few may have been real, but the rest were manufactured). This was a very succesful technique that is used to this day. It sort of slides the quality of the thread itself, and this is not possible to stop with an algorithm, because what are you going to do? Ban Yas Forums tards for shitposting? Shitposting is the main course on here.
So within minutes a cvg thread became barely unreadable, void of information, and when information did get posted, the shit posting would just increase to bump the thread over the limit and see it go away. They also did threadsplitting, where duplicate cvg threads were created, and then reported to the mods. I dont know how effective this was. They also mass flagged information posters, targeted them with trolling and schizo posting. After the mods wised up you would just receive a warning, but for a few days you could get a ban.
Only now the virus is an american virus and america is number one, does CIA shill activity need to return. They leaked about the fake numbers to the world press, which they knew about since January, but now felt the need to release. Trump will also start to attack the lapdog WHO.
