NASCAR driver Kyle Larson dumped by racing team after using N-word during virtual race
The Chip Ganassi Racing team has cut ties with NASCAR driver Kyle Larson after he used the N-word during a virtual race.

The team announced its decision Tuesday, two days after Larson said the racial slur while taking part in a live-streamed iRacing event.

“After much consideration, Chip Ganassi Racing has determined that it will end its relationship with driver Kyle Larson," Chip Ganassi Racing said in a statement.

"As we said before, the comments that Kyle made were both offensive and unacceptable especially given the values of our organization," the statement continued. "As we continued to evaluate the situation with all the relevant parties, it became obvious that this was the only appropriate course of action to take.“

Both Chip Ganassi Racing and NASCAR announced Monday that Larson, 27, was being suspended.

His use of the slur came during the virtual race Sunday after he appeared to lose audio contact with his spotter.

"You can’t hear me?” Larson could be heard saying into his headset. “Hey, n****r.”

Larson, who is half Japanese, apologized Monday.

“Last night, I made a mistake and said the word that should never, ever be said,” Larson said in a video shared on Twitter. “There’s no excuse for that. I wasn’t raised that way. It’s just an awful thing to say, and I feel very sorry for my family, my friends, my partners, the NASCAR community and especially the African-American community. I understand the damage is probably unrepairable, and I own up to that.”

McDonalds, Credit One Bank and Clover each dropped their sponsorships of Larson following the incident.

Larson's use of the word surprised other participants in the virtual race, with one saying, “Kyle, you’re talking to everyone bud.”

Sunday's race was not an official NASCAR event.

NASCAR said it "will not tolerate the type of language" that Larson used, and that he will now need to take part in a sensitivity training program.

Larson, who is the only current NASCAR driver of Japanese descent, finished sixth in the Cup Series standings in 2019 and has won six races in his career.

Imagine working hard enough all your life to become a professional racing driver on a top tier trophy, only to have everything you ever worked for destroyed, over a single word.

I'd just start calling everyone a nigger all my life if I were him.
