The process is intentionally made confusing and convoluted to deter people IMO. I should outline the licence procedure too for you, cause its all in legalese. Alot of the info is, and it takes hours to understand. >join club, do safety course and maybe a few shoots with them, depending on the club. >send off safety course and proof of club membership to FAR >wait 28 days >get photo taken, pay fee, get probationary pistol licence. >6 months waiting period until you can purchase first firearm begins from now, as soon as your licence is in hand. >wait 6 months >apply for PTA >wait 28 days and then they will send the PTA out. >buy gun, can only have up to 2 firearms, and they have to be of the same cartridge (rim or centrefire, pick wisely) Its really a seven month waiting period cause the 28 days for the PTA wait unfortunately. You MAY be able to submit the PTA around month 5 of the waiting period and it might get approved when the 6 months is up, i've heard of people doing that on enoughgun forum, but idk. I didnt get one til having my licence for almost a year, wasnt sure what i wanted. >once you have held probationary licence for 1 year, you get full licence and can buy as many as you like, and of any cartridge you like (rimfire and centrefire).
