Can anyone else relate? Most people hate the OT and think it's too gross and barbaric but I can only really enjoy that part of the Bible and the NT books that mesh really well with it, like Revelation, John, and Paul's letters. The hippy side of the Bible just feels too gnostic and boomery for me. It talks more about how the authors feel the world should be and how they feel people should act rather than how things really are, kind of the opposite of a practical self-sustaining version of Christianity that acknowledges the cold harsh truths of God's reality and teaches its followers to act in accordance.

People forget sometimes that the same Jesus who said "Love your neighbor" also drove the money changers from the temple with a whip and preached fire and brimstone.
The Book of the Apocalypse is also pretty based when you get into it. I can appreciate Acts and the various Epistles but you have to understand the historical context and have a clear picture of Paul's journeys to really get a good feel for them

I'm more inclined to read Taoist and Hindu texts which often speak of truths of detachment and the logos. Cutting off baby dicks and making a blood pact in promise of clay and earthly reward doesn't fit with the message of transcendence promised by our Lord.
