Yeah I read one of his books and that's what he said in it. He also said something about some guy trying to show them a new form of agriculture, and he ended up causing the collapse of one of their hanging cliff farms.
He mentions several times that if you show them any object they snatch it and study it, and constantly ask questions about different plants they've never encountered before. Their government also involves deferring to village "big men" who are, literally, just the biggest motherfuckers in the village. They spend hours and days deliberating on, probably, banal and useless bullshit.
