Well, the founders were liberal, and it was a progressive revolution based on enlightenment values. It was left-wing, just a leftism so outdated that it looks nice compared to the modern, evolved form.

However, there is an important factor that separates the American secession from other liberal revolutions like the French one, which was the colonial aspect- when people are born on the other side of the world, months away from communication and transit to the originating country, there’s a natural desire for autonomy and self-governance. That helped trump the ideological aspect to the revolution avoid the increasingly radical purity spirals like the French had.
