Duh. Also, there is nothing CEOs would love more than execute the ownership of their companies when they're failing only to buy back when it craters. They are quite literally forbidden from doing that, they have to announce with lots of advance that they are divesting and the more they divest the strongest the signal to the market the company is doing bad, crashing the price.
CEOs are also unfairly targetted as if they were the owners of the companies (which happens, but very rarely). They're just some highly paid designated punching bags
