it's best not to talk about your case if it's something scummy like raping a woman or child. you can say "none of your fucking business" but even if you lied and said somthing respectable like robbery or burglary or even murder the other prisoners are going to find out eventually. Guards usually tell some inmates or your court papers get taken, etc

it all depends on the facility (AKA the people inside that particular one, inmates and guards etc)

I bet some prisons are super gang filled but i think it isnt hard to find a group of people who dont want to join a gang but they will watch your back if you watch theirs, these are groups of ~4-6 or maybe more. Of course you have to not take shit if someone wants to find you and not be a bitch.

Depends on your institution. Some of the LARPers on here will act as if every facility is a high-octane ultra-max security situation.

Jails runs the gamut; the state and federal systems also have their own idiosyncrasies. I worked in a massive low-security federal institution where it was very possible to "lay low" but other places may not have that option.

There is some consensual gay shit amongst some of the prisoners, but it's always discrete and out of sight so nobody cares. People in Finnish prisons just stick to themselves or a group (if your in a gang) but everyone just minds their own shit and keeps a low profile because there is no point in potentially fucking with you release date.

Report every infraction of prison rules directly to the nearest guard. Threaten to snitch on your fellow inmates at every opportunity. Brag about how much money you have on your book. Show photos to demonstrate your personal wealth: house, cars, etc. That way you'll be respected and admired and the other inmates will be afraid to mess with you because they know that you're going to snitch.
