The same reason American fine cuisine is non-existent. There was a strain of protestant thought in the 18th and 19th century that was strictly against rich things and icons like exotic foods and clothing. Democracy has also served as a force to sterilize anything of value. Europe used to have guilds, coffee houses, and academic fraternal organizations that had master-student relation. For profit organizations in the US could never produce great statues like in OPs pic.
Americans are not proud of fairy homosexual things like aesthetics, art, culture... We would rather sell out our national identity for more cheeseburgers and blue jeans.
