Older metal is more masculine and tends to involve nationalistic themes, but lacks modern polish in production. Newer metal tends to involve more multiculti themes, but, due to modern production techniques, tends to sound better even though it can sometimes be formulaic.

You’re on to something, but I wouldn’t exactly call metal popular. I mean it is, but only within a certain audience. Most people these days listen to nigger beats. Also I tend to like a lot of recent developments in metal (extended range guitars, crisp production, electronic elements, etc.). I just wish they could drop a lot of the gay shit they picked up along the way.
