Fuck the USPS. I worked there for 3.5 years. Management is loaded with cronyism and nepotism. Their IG literally sends friends of management to investigate. Work conditions are poor. Vehicle fleet doesnt exist for half of the carriers. They run a closed market for city and clerk uniforms at inflated prices. Also, top management gets paid in excess of the US VP salary (govy no no). Not to mention losing the Amazon contract after starting Sunday work. Only to turn around and accept those same parcels at a discounted rate through UPS and FedEx as last leg weekday runs. Wish packages are also underpriced. It needs to be reabsorbed and put under a microscope again.

Between amazon and the chinese package rates they lose tons of money. They could have done away with weekend delivery a long time ago too. Maybe even deliver residential mail only 2 or 3 alternating days a week.

I love when people talk about privatizing USPS, I always ask to see the line of companies clamoring for access to first-class mail delivery. There is none. Money is in parcels, hence UPS, and overnight, hence FedEx. There is no money in bulk mail and 1st class. FedEx and UPS spent huge bucks and lobbied aggressively to prevent USPS from expanding into boxing services, selling knickknacks/memorabilia, or anything outside very basic packing tape and such, effectively limiting every profitable expansion USPS tried.
Also, the letter mail "monopoly" is not a monopoly but a literal Constitutional mandate and will take a literal act of Congress to remove. Congress wouldn't do that because nobody wants to do what USPS does. They already carry small parcels for UPS and FedEx so those carriers don't have to make a stop on their route for a $1 small envelope. Neither of those companies have the manpower, fleet, and most importantly, the desire to take those back.
Amazon rates are bullshit but what is also bullshit is China using a WTO treaty giving discounted postage rates to "developing nations" so its cheaper to ship a phone charger from Beijing to NYC than it is to ship it from New Jersey to NYC.
