Megan Brennan, Postmaster General of the U.S. Postal Service...

>Megan Brennan, Postmaster General of the U.S. Postal Service, told the House Oversight and Reform Committee that the USPS will run out of cash by 2024 if reforms are not enacted, according to the Washington Examiner.
is the USPS antiquated? They are in the news again for coming up short on money with the virus economy and risking over half a million jobs as a result. The thing is, they've been hemorrhaging money for years

>For the first quarter of 2019 ending Dec. 31, the USPS reported total revenue of $19.7 billion, up 2.9% from a year ago, and a net loss of $1.5 billion, up nearly $1 billion to 2018. First-class mail revenue was $81 million, down 1.2%, while shipping and packing revenue increased 8.7% to $516 million, as volume increased 5.4%.

is it time to let the mail industry go full privatized and to cut down on all the garbage mail stuffed in our boxes daily? these items could easily just become emails that get deleted.... thoughts?

Oh noes, how will I get unwanted pounds of useless paper delivered to my home now?

Similar situation here with Royal Mail. The only thing keeping them going is parcel post flowing from online shopping and junk mail. Companies pay half a penny per item to have their shitty marketing materials posted out, probably less than that nowadays. And we have loads of competitors for parcel delivery. Private delivery companies will actually phone you when they're outside your door to let you know they've arrived, whereas Royal Mail put a card through your letterbox to tell you to go and pick up the item yourself, between 7am and 10am. Ain't no one got time for that shit. RIP national, government-owned postal services. The world has moved on.

>2024

Imagine being so incompetent you run a government monopoly of a service everybody needs that will allegedly be bankrupt in 4 years and you have no idea what the fuck to do about it other than beg congress for free money.

who cares if it loses money, it's a public service

also the whole insolvency crisis is artificial and caused by fucktarded rules regulating their pension fund

They can certainly start by laying off specifically all the retards that work for them. The ones who have no place working in a post office.

It's a start.

>The only people who send me mail are the government, banks, and spammers
>99% of this mail I immediately toss on the fucking ground for being useless trash so wagies clean it up

Yes

All the bulk garbage mail is profitable though. It is the first class mail & package delivery that loses money.

Congress's rules are why the USPS has such fiscal problems. First, as mentioned someone else, the USPS is required to overfund its pension in a way that no other agency or private corporation is subject too. The other issue is that Congress fixes the prices it can charge for a lot of stuff; for example it only lets the USPS charge 55 cents for a first class stamp. Consider that in much smaller, more densely populated countries like the UK or France they charge 76 pence or 1.05 euros for the same. If Congress changed those requirements the USPS would be profitable.

Usps doesn't hurt you at all. All those packages you get from Amazon to live like a NEET? USPS is doing that last mile delivery. If you ever tried to mail a package, USPS won't fuck your asshole raw like UPS and FedEx will. USPS is fucked because they have to find pensions 75 years in advance, something no other federal agency must do. And yes we can argue they're half privatized and should find ways to be profitable, but funny thing is they can't change their prices by a cent without congressional approval.

>who cares if it loses money, it's a public service
youre paying the offset

>is it time to let the mail industry go full privatized
it's that, usps jacks their prices up sky high, or they continue operating at a loss like they have for decades. either way the cost is passed on to the consoomer, they'll make sure of that.

How many buildings (post offices) does USPS own outright, thousands? (this goes for the Library as well)
Rethink the business model, because people can get a in home postal machine, soon an App.
Maybe put Solar Panels or windmills on all the rooftops, make their own and sell electricity?
Be a beacon with all electric vehicles (or natural gas)?
What other sub-business could the USPS put on FEDERAL property to generate revenue?
.
Or what about accessing more Federal Funds by providing federal services;
Parks, gymnasiums, and playgrounds for American youth? etc.
So many idea, rather than rewarding constant mismanagement.

>2024
Charge proper price for Amazon, UPS and FedEx for delivering their crap

The mail is a constitutional right.

Fuck off FedEx shill!

Mailman here. I like my job

The point of the USPS is not to turn a profit. It's to provide delivery services to as many Americans as possible. They cover $71 billion of their $79 billion expenses in revenue alone. $5 billion of their expenses is because of a bullshit Republican bill passed under Bush 2 that requires them to pre-fund all pensions, which no other government agency is subject to. Can you name any other government agency that self-funds its operations to the degree of the USPS?

Prices are tied to inflation. I guess they could change that but both parties want the post office to fail so I doubt that would change.

I'm a mailman and this shit is crazy I hate being a mailman its garbage read the bukowski book Post Office if you want an idea but without all the good stuff

STOP GIVING ME SPAM MAIL YOU FAGGOT JUST THROW IT IN THE TRASH

Yeah. Even during a national pandemic I like the job
(actually its better now since there is no traffic and no one is around to bother me)

Since it's required to be around in the Constitution, the end goal of this death by a thousand cuts is to turn the USPS into a money hose for private industry like the War Department.
It's going to get more expensive for the average taxpayer, less efficient, and keep a bunch of zombie companies around that should have died ages ago.
And the worst part is nobody's going to stop it because the Democrats and Republicans function as one party. They pretend to fight over issues that don't matter while railroading through legislation for their donors like it's breathing air.

Mail is required as per the constitution and to be honest I have always had great success with USPS. Just change the laws to favor USPS instead of some private company or run it at a loss.
If every other business can buy a senator or two to change laws in their favor why can't the USPS get some love?

By law it is up to you to throw it in the trash, sir.

Better luck finding a new job

FUCK YOU. I WILL VOTE FOR WHOEVER CUTS YOUR FUNDING.

fellow mailfag, I like the actual work seeing as it is solo work out on the road, headphones in and some snacks with you you're solid. but the way the usps itself treats us (or at least me) is very bad and unfair sometimes and even moreso due to Corona. just my opinion

lucky for you. I service a richie rich neighborhood and everyone is out walking/running, kids are all over the streets. Its like Halloween

I dont listen to poojeet comments on Yas Forums

The problem is that the Dems want to bail out USPS (instead of changing the rules) mainly to push "Vote by mail" which is a disaster (this isn't a right/left thing either, Since a republican was just as likely to Ballot harvest as a dem)

Just for that Im giving you two advo's on mondays

lotta joggers but they move out of the way.

Oh and I forgot to mention the best part about US mail. First class mail is protected and you need a warrant to open it. Shit like UPS and FedEx they can open any time they want.
I imagine this is another reason people want it dead. Easier to spy on people when you don't even have to pretend to follow the rule of law.

Bulk spam mail is profitable though. Its the first class mail & packages that lose money for the USPS. So even if the Post office was completely privatized & cut off from government subsidies, you would still be getting SPAM in you mailbox.

Just give them a trillion dollars per year or however much to keep it up. There is no way they can lose money unless their whole economic system is broken.

If the USPS, a service used by so many, can't profit, then you should look at how it's being ran, but its more of a sign of the whole system of economics as they are broken.

Are you city or rural?

Also their net losses are a drop in the bucket. Just subsidize it, how is it not already?

They have to prefund their pension, something no one else does, and the fact they are nearly pulling it off to me says they are run very well.

This. My letter carrier is a dumb nigger that can't read addresses and mixes up mail between all the buildings in my area.
That waste of oxygen gets $25+ an hour with benefits and pension to fuck up reading street names. Kids can do his job better than he can.

They aren't allowed to make money off of anything that's not mail or a mail service.

That's a symptom of the mono-party. They pretend to disagree when they know what the compromise will be. The Dems will "begrudgingly" keep the pensions around, while the Reps will "compromise" and figure out a set of conditions that will kill the USPS even faster despite dumping money into it. National debt expands as well so they can go back to pretending like there's no money for nationalist programs or forcing companies to bring manufacturing to the US instead of Vietnam or Mexico.
