Do you know anyone in your family that fought against Germany during WW2?

Did you ever talk to them about politics and the current state of the western civilization? What do they think about it?

Yes. My great grandfather is still alive he’s 96 fought at D-Day (1PARA) and at Arnhem against the SS. I asked him what he thought about the state of our country and he said he wish he hadn’t bothered and that the Germans he fought against we’re good people. He also said he couldn’t believe we had left women in the infantry he’s pretty based.

My Grandfather was a true Italian Partisan who fought against the Germans and Italian Blackshirts. He got caught and put in a work camp and went from a strong 85kg to 45kg man.

He was also at Bergen Belson ((concentration camp)) I asked him about that he didn’t say much except it was a pretty grim sight but he did say that it wasn’t just the inmates starving and suffering from disease but also the guards and a lot of the towns people.

my grandfather was 14 and lived in what is now western belarus, and what was Poland then. He did forced labor in Germany.

He now lives a mile down a dead-end road in the middle of nowhere in the US. He doesn't think about the current state of western civilization or politics. He just sits out in his chair looking at some land. He's happy. He worked 2nd and 3rd shift in a forge for 40 years. He deserves to not think about that shit.

Yeah, both of my grandparents (and their entire family desu) fought in the Red Army against the Germans. One of my great uncles even got into a concentration camp (or rather STALAG), suffered from amnesia and only came back to the family 20 years after the war. They initially wouldn't let my grandfather from my mother's side join the army because he was an ethnic German, but eventually he was allowed to kill his brothers. Both of them were fairly racists, though the were tolerant towards other races once they fully integrated into the community. They didn't really hate blacks though, mainly because there weren't any in Russia at that time

One was a union democrat in the 60s-70s, worked in TV and was obsessed with shows and movies, all he did growing up was fish or watch TV. Now is too senile to ask about politics, lives in a nursing home.
The other was somewhat libertarian, disliked anyone who worked for government, didn't like Bush, hated Obama, hated politicians in general really. Pretty great guy really, taught me a lot, def more of the one I take after of the two, can't really ask him about current politics since he is dead.
