I live in the suburbs and I still have access to public transportation.
Its not just metros in a big dense megalopolis
Commuter trains go to and through suburbia from a city center core.
Regional and interurban trains travel beyond the suburban terminus into the wider region, rural areas, and to big towns/small cities therein.
And if your city isn't big enough to warrant a metro that is okay because streetcars/trams/lightrail which are all basically the same thing can make a perfectly fine alternative (if done properly, I dont mean a single short route a mile long in the gentrified downtown)

Amazing, I live in one of the whitest metros in the US and we have functioning public transportation. It's really nice, I use the train all the time. Only time I ever have a problem is the one in a hundred rides when some mooncricket wanders on and starts jigabooing around.

My city, Portland, has all three and they're garbage, and would still be garbage if all of the junkies and assorted scum were removed. Streetcars are slower than walking, the tram is a joke, and the light rail is much slower than driving/walking/cycling in the inner city, and is useless outside of the inner city because it was mostly built along cargo rail ROWs, which means that there's a lot of last mile considerations that involve the driving/walking/cycling. The one thing it does sort of well is ferry people between downtown and the airport, but even for that it's almost always much slower than driving.

It's on a far lower level compared to Europe. There is less of it, and when there is, the infrastructure is developing country tier compared to Europe.

Not connecting the coasts perhaps, but the traffic between cities is worse, too. A 111 km/h average speed between Washington D.C. and Boston is simply pathetic. Similar corridors in Europe have an average speed of at least about 200 km/h.

Yeah, the Cascades train between Portland and Seattle is just as slow, but it's still a lot better than driving. Usually around 3.5 hours for the train vs. up to 8 to drive. It's pretty comfy and Amtrak does a good job despite having no budget. Having HSR along those corridors would be great but unfortunately the US is incapable of building HSR. The CA project wound up being a sadder mess than I imagined it could be.
It wouldn't have done anything anyway. The "program" was just a few people and completely redundant. Not that you know anything more than shill talking points.
