You won't be able to make a breathable faraday cage for 5G (~60ghz) wavelengths, so you'll want to ground that shielding at all discontinuous points. Depends on what you mean by 5G. . . if you're scared of the mm wave bands, you don't need any foil, just keep your windows closed and blinds down if you want to be conservative. If you're worried about actual 5G (aka software defined radio encompassing a huge range of existing bands in addition to slower deployment of mm wave), then you'll need a couple feet worth. Also, be sure to turn off your electricity permanently and sever all copper wires - these will couple externally and bring in the fields via conductive coupling to re-radiate in your abode of autistic idiocy. While other people were hoarding toilet paper I stocked up on AL foil. Most suprising thing is that you can actually wile your arse with it. Kind of strange but it does work.

You simply crumble it up in a ball and then you can throw it away. (or freeze it first incase you are bothered by the smell).

I use about 1.5 roll a day but thats cause im extensively wrapping. Once im done im set for the time being. Ill have to look into the grounding work though.

Easiest thing would simply be to build a "secure" room within the house or basement if you have one which includes surrounding that room in a Faraday cage.

You can't surround the entire house it's not practical. But you could surround one room or the basement if the basement is below ground.

If you are concerned about the 60ghz bands (aka the bait and switch feature of 5G that they advertise but cant actually make work), the foil is overkill. These frequencies cant make it through a piece of paper. OP, keep in mind that to fully shield yourself, you need to make a Faraday Cage. this means the entire room must be insulated, not just the walls. this means ceiling and floor also. 5g is omni-directional, it is literally designed to be able to penetrate walls so you have service in buildings, even underground, etc.

there is also a very, and i mean VERY expensive, wall coating that movie theaters started using a few years ago that is quite literally an EMF/RF blocking paint. it's known as Shielding Solutions EMF Shielding Paint YSHIELD, and its about $300 a bucket. if you want to seriously block your shit, that would be the way to go.

as far as width, using flat sheets or panels of aluminum, it would need to be about as thick as a pizza tray. i've tested this myself. the thicker the aluminum, the more resistant to penetration. it scatters signals almost instantly. i've thought about buying straight sheets and cutting them, bolting them to the wall and painting but as i found out, raw aluminum panels of that thickness run quite expensive. like i said, faraday cage that shit or get the RF blocking paint.
