Easy, if you want God's commands for how humans shall behave towards each other, read the New Testament. My experience is that if you want to know God on a very deep level, go to those that people deem "stupid", they understand God and is very close to God on a strange intuitive way. Now in Luke its very different, the apostles engage with Jesus's teaching more easily, they sort of know the explanations already once he makes the similes, they actively ask questions about what can this be likened to or that etc. Luke's gospel is definitely more supportive of the concept of average people knowing better or being more in tune with God,.

It really has helped me through a lot of hardship.
Ironically It came to me when I was the peak of my depression and suicidal thoughts,
the stress from my job and the idea that I might be a shitty minimum wage worker for the rest of my life caused a sever breakdown,
mostly because I've been to college 4 times already and felt like a total failure to myself and my family.
Then something clicked and I realized that if I kill myself my problems will not be solved,
I will still be a shitty artist, I will not find peace in death because I am already in hell.
Since then (last summer when I was ready to just jump into my bath with a toaster) I've saved up every penny I can, taken as little hours as possible so I can work on really matters and that's family and the eternal soul, faith in something beyond has given me the will and courage to chase after my dreams and one day I wont have to scrape a living flipping pizzas and can become an example to my sons that determination is all it takes.
Blog over just needed to say that someone who understands, I live in a godless city where people are miserable and think they only have this life to experience "so why bother changing it?" funnily enough my co-workers call me a monk, but I've never tried to talking to anyone about the afterlife as they see religion as silly or outdated.
