Flightops get cancelled, maintenance gets put on the back burner, or you have one man working 12 on 12 off doing the work of a team. If the bridge crew goes down, operational efficiency is reduced to the equivalent of being stuck at port. Not to mention the high amount of contact points, close quarters, and a single point of food distribution and you can have the entire ship out of service.
