Because it's basically blaming yourself for problems that you didn't cause and that are outside of your control. We live in a world with massive, deep-seeded social problems. Peterson's advice is basically to change yourself to adapt to those social problems rather than to try to recognize the negative influences on your life as external, and potentially outside of your control. It's a common mentality with conservatives. Esp in young people though, it breeds self-hatred, feelings of impotence, failure, inability to cope. And the result is a range of negative behaviors.

Yeah what this poster says is also really accurate. You CANT take too much responsibility for problems in your life. You CANT dismiss the effect that the world has on you, and that many of those factors are out of your control no matter what. It's often, in a twisted way, a power fantasy for people to be able to blame themselves for things. Because, at the end of the day, if you deem yourself as responsible for something then YOU can change, YOU can change it. Problem is that in real life you often (or most often) can't change the bad things that vex you and cause you problems in life. So this is just a kernel or seed of something negative that is going to fester and cause all of this dark, sordid shit to bubble to the top of your psyche in some manifestation or some other.
It's common shit with conservatives. Self-blame is often like a weird, twisted conservative power fantasy in some way because conservatives can't deal with the terror of being out of control or out of power
