Why is japanese used so frequently in cyberpunk imagery above all other languages? Do they honestly believe their irrelevant culture will survive past the 21st Century?
Why is japanese used so frequently in cyberpunk imagery above all other languages...
because their cities have that feel at night
not even NYC has that vibe and other American cities are kinda bland
Only sane country in asia
no reason
>irrelevant culture
Name 5 things that are japanese culture besides copied western technology, shitty cartoons, sushi, and pink flowering trees. Go on, I dare you.
Imagine how tiny Japanese women will be in the future when they are way more underfed, they are already such tight right WiFu material!!!!!!
Soduku
I could be argued Ridley Scott invented Cyberpunk with Blade runner. His influences were Hong Kong and the comics of Jorodowsky.
Japan took the aesthetic on board heavily then cane the weebs and they weebed the shit out of it.
Because when cyberpunk was being developed Japan was like the China of today, lots of people thought they would overtake the West with technology
Cheap, low-emission cars; electronics beyond China; space exploration; honest nationalism; chambara films in a western vein that Brits couldn't hope to touch.
The fact that you are on a japanese imagem board?

This is your brain on Yas Forums
When the cyberpunk genre was big, it was widely believed that Japan would run the world in the future. Then they shit the bed economically with a lost decade or something.
For you zoomers, Japan was the old China but with slicker aesthetics and the idea that they were smarter and harder working instead of just an unbeatable horde.
Hold-over from earlier cyberpunk works, you zoomer
Back in the 80s when most cyberpunk literature (and bladerunner) were made, Japan was economically dominant and rising. Japanese multinational companies were suddenly present where they weren't the decade before. The near future prediction that seemed to make the most sense was a future culturally and economically dominated by Japan. Of course that didn't happen, Japan entered a deflationary cycle and we're left with scifi movies with lots of neon and katakana.

Japanese aesthetics look futuristic as is and also they're about as far away as you can get from Western culture in terms of how the language looks and what it evolved from so it adds to a dissociated / alien feeling.

Blade runner reference. Cyberpunk and niponese pop culture go hand to hand.
Why is OP so butthurt about nips? What did they do?
Cyberpunk is cringe. It's supposed to be dystopian but all the soiboys who make that shit now think its unironically cool
kawaiipunk when
faggot
Cyberpunk is cool though
Because the cyberpunk genre and aesthetic came of age in the 1980s when everybody thought Japan would take over the world.

It’s Chinese. And it’s used because China will own every country in the world when we hit true Dystopia
Nah, I'm thinking you're just a fag is all. Why else would a low T beta like you move to japan? To be with your kind ofc.
>irrelevant culture will survive past the 21st Century
Nice flag, Ahmed.
the fifth generation of computing, the world was scared that the Japanese were going to have a breakthrough with artificial intelligence
atarimagazines.com
>CREATIVE COMPUTING VOL. 10, NO. 8 / AUGUST 1984 / PAGE 103
>The Japanese are planning the miracle product. It will come not from their mines, their wells, their fields, or even their seas. It comes instead from their brains. The miracle product is knowledge, and the Japanese are planning to package and sell it the way other nations package and sell energy, food, or manufactured goods. They're going to give the world the next generation--Fifth Generation--of computers, and those machines are going to be intelligent.
>In October 1981, when Japan first let the world at large know about its plans for the Fifth Generation of computers, the Japanese government announced that over the next decade it planned to spend seed money of about $450 million (participating industries are expected to match, and perhaps double, that amount) and would eventually involve several hundred top scientists in this project.
>Their goal is to develop computers for the 1990s and beyond--intelligent computers that will be able to converse with to converse with humans in natural language and understand speech and pictures. These will be computers that can learn, associate, make inferences, make decisions, and otherwise behave in ways we have always considered the exclusive province of human reason.
I like the Hong Kong aesthetic behind cyberpunk. a city built like a dense array of transistors and capacitors on a silicon wafer. When I first read about Kowloon, it gave me a real vibe for the genre. Kowloon Walled City was a marvel to behold. An experiment, ended in the late 1980's, and demolished in 1994, it was the densest housing project on the face of the earth.

Ok. WHY the fuck have I seen so many people today posting pictures of all these Cx losers. Anyone who still watches any of that shit is the biggest fucking loser at life.
Because in the 80s all of your shiny electronics like synthesizers, consoles were made in Japan. So naturally you would associate the country with modern futuristic stuff.

You are literally on a website that exists because of Japanese culture and a large part of it is still exclusively dedicated to Japanese things.
Japan is based. They'll be around longer than us. They laugh at the concept of racism (considered a moronic western idea, which it is). They believe Japanese culture and tradition is above all others and many will tell you this to your face without caring about offending you.

I can tell you're a millenial or a zoomer. Once upon a time, Japan was a MASSIVE economic powerhouse in the 80's time frame. You saw "Made in Japan" on just about all big-ticket electronics back then as often as you see "Made in China" on stuff today. Everybody thought Japan was going to economically dominate the entire world, so it came as no surprise that cyberpunk depictions of the future during that era showed Japanese culture bleeding into everything, everywhere.
It’s because the chink cucks will go on getting more and more technologically advanced until their cock and balls fall off. Us true western civilisations will return to the land and rejoin nature in harmony while they become mindless wage cuck drones
i see chicken scratchings in neon, i think blade runner

When the cyberpunk aesthetic was established, Japan’s influence on the west was growing.
They simply followed that trajectory for a few decades into the future.
