second waves only occur if you dont really contain it the first time. If you let it "just fizzle out" chances are it hasnt "just fizzled out" and is actually slowly circulating and gaining ground again, and then you have a second wave.

I'm reading "When Prophecys Fail" atm. According to the authors, when people deeply commit themselves to a doomsday prophecy that fails to come true, their first instinct is to make excuses and then come up with a new date for the prophecy a few months further into the future.
I can already tell that if there is no humanitarian disaster in Sweden in the next week or so, i.e. if /cvg/ is proven beyond any reasonable doubt to be wrong in their doomsaying, that the more committed members are going to claim that a "second wave" of chink cough is just around the corner. They will simply push the date of doomsday back a few months and cope.
Then, if the second wave fails to materialise or, materialises but fails to cause doomsday, they will predict a third wave. etc.
