IRC exists already. And it works without a fucking phone app. Sorry to rain on your parade user, but there's better chat tools out there. If you are looking to make a true contribution make something that anyone can hook up to their wifi router and that an app (if you must use one) can auto discover by scanning for SSIDs denoting that there is a server running. Since that will require dedicated hardware anyway, build something with a wifi radio of its own that only needs electricity. Also, use existing solid protocols such as IRC wherever possible.

I am already on it.
Pic is the entire hardware needed to build a node for such a network. An ESP8266 that can handle a webserver and a LORA 868MHZ Transciever module which is used for communication between nodes.
You connect to the webserver using a browser and see what messages are coming in.
One of the many problems with this is that not everyone has the required hardware or skill to build a node by themself.
Also this is low bandwidth stuff and the range is limited. However by bulding a Solar powered plane that can act as a comms relay you might get around the range limits.
What I would like to have is a fork of Signal with a focus on group discovery and the removal of phone numbers as identifiers. Telegram is cancer and Signal is really only meant to communicate with users you already know (it's great for that).
That looks much better. If you can get that mass produced, I'd say you got yourself a winner. Given the cheap components and power supply requirements I don't think range will be much of an issue. You can just drop them somewhere out of sight or have people running them from their homes.

Ich nehme wieder Vorschläge für Posts an, gerne auch in eurer Stadt. Am besten Posts die nicht extrem offensichtlich """Rechts""" oder """Transgenderfeindlich""" sind, da diese von den schwulen Mods gelöscht werden. Also bitte was unterschwelliges. Der Post, welcher sich kritisch gegenüber Transgenderism geäußert hat, wurde beispielsweise relativ zeitig gelöscht.
Wenn man das umgehen möchte müsste man das Moderatoren mit Spamposts so überfordern, damit diese nicht hinterherkommen. Aber da riskieren wir, dass das unfähige Jodel-Team dem ganzen auf die Schliche kommt.

Forget about the "private" bit. Nobody but you and 3 friends, who will gradually drift away will use it. Build something public that can be used as transport for a private overlay later. Goal number one should be to have an utterly censorship proof mode of communication.
Regarding encryption: only autonegotiated session keys. Anything better than that will make it too hard to use and we're in "you and 3 friends" territory once more. Those who want proper encryption should be able to go full retard on end-to-end encryption with all the fingerprint comparing and signing hoops one commonly jumps through, but it should not be the default.
alright so instead of having every server private, a user should be able to find groups and be able to apply to join them?
this would definetly increase the exposure of gorups but i think i will make this optional. so when someone wants to run a server in private they still can.

I personally use Signal for all my private communication. From what I could find out during research, even the FBI can just extract the phone number and the last time online from warrants. No logs whatsoever. It makes sense for them to not allow discoverable groups because the entire project is built on trust. You can't trust users that join via a public invite. The only safeguard then would be to assign users randomized IDs instead of using the phone number as an identifier. Lowers trust across the board, but I don't think there's a way around it. Telegram still doesn't even encrypt group chats AFAIK.
To add to that: I don't care if glowies are joining a public group to listen in (no way around it if you want open networking), but they should have no ability to find out who any of those people are. The solution would have to be really simple and easy-to-use, otherwise it won't spread. There's no censorship if you can't persecute.
