The only functional solution is to vote for people (local and federal elections, for all government branches) whose interests are aligned with the people. Not the few, not the ones like you, but all the people. The politicians with clean records (or as clean as one can get). The standard of candidate needs to go up, not down. And as long as people vote with that in mind, it will.

It seems like being running to be a government official is the only job where being the absolute worst choice for the position doesn't disqualify you. That needs to change. People need to look at candidates more objectively, like recruiters, not like a bunch of morons watching a TV show and voting for their favourite performer.
