It’s an interesting problem from the Israeli side. The gibs are around 1/7th of the defense budget. But the gibs aren’t blank check, a lot of it earmarked for purchasing US equipment and combined projects. Likewise, it allows the US to steer Israeli policy.
So, the Israeli moderate right and center are fine with it because it’s money to buy things they’d consider buying anyway and agreeing to policy they support. I assume the US has a huge amount of corruption tied to this foreign aid and without it tons of congressmen would have defunct factories in their district and fewer campaign donations.
For the Israeli far right, foreign aid is a bribe to keep them from doing what they need to do in terms of annexation, puppet states, population exchanges, etc. Likewise it ties the military to a foreign military instead of being fully self sufficient in production.
