OP the best course of action is to merciless attack shills etc. Especialy one that jump in early on posts to shit on them so they don't gain traction. I've been watching them do this. Most of my posts get 4 to 5 major attacks right at first. All you have to do is attack them back and hopefully the second wave of anons will come through and the thread will pick up steam. But these operators go from one new thread to the next shitting the down to shut them down. Especially ones like yours that a call to action. Just monitor your thread and interact with the friendly anons that will draw in others. Be supportive and thank people. The OP should act as a good host and encourage debate and sharing. Don't just post and run. You have to nurse a thread and help it grow.

Here's a suggestion. Open up the catalog, find the most obvious bait thread with high replies, and simply observe the arguments arising. Let's see what tactics they use. I will do this as well, in a moment.

What kills me user is when I post a new thread and three or four shills come in right away and shit all over it. I think they do it in order to generate a negative mode in the thread so passing anons will choose not to post. It's like getting bad reviews and then the normies just pass you by. I can't even count how many times this happens. I almost NEVER get a possitive first post. But I do my best to overcome the negative energy by counter posting or engaging to get the thread to bump. That is what I would suggest to every OP. Always engage as many anons as you can to boost your thread. Be a good host and try to get people talking.

I wonder, what can be done to prevent such a thing? What I gather from this is that the real killer is when shills get the first few posts nailed down, thus killing off a thread. I suppose a few things can be done to counter this:
-simply engaging in the thread before they do, and prewriting some replies before making the OP
-having a ready rebuttal for those shills
-ignoring and reporting them outright

Some of it might be from a desire to compete and get in good zingers. Everybody wants to be an Aussie sniper or a Leaf baiting faggot. If the intensity of gradual dilution is intense enough, the readers will effectively stop researching and simply slip into a 'gossip mode.' In this state they can be more easily misdirected away from facts towards uninformed conjecture and opinion. The less informed they are the more effective and easy it becomes to control the entire group in the direction that you would desire the group to go in. It must be stressed that a proper assessment of the psychological capabilities and levels of education is first determined of the group to determine at what level to 'drive in the wedge.' By being too far off topic too quickly it may trigger censorship by a forum moderator.
