there's a false trend there, unless the US isn't following italy and spain then we won't start seeing that in new york until the end of the week reason why the numbers of deaths/infections were lower yesterday is because they're always lower on the weekends (look at the NYC data, saturday and sunday always underperform) if instead you're looking at infection count, most of the country's infections are in new york, michigan and new jersey, all of which are infected to the point where their testing doesn't accurately reflect the number - this is why you start seeing a linear trend in infections when that's just because the testing rate is linear it's looking like deaths will be between 100k-200k at the end of this unless something happens that NY and other areas have later peaks or lopsided curves, but daily deathcount should *trend* higher for the rest of the weak even if an individual day is low. after that it will depend
