In some neighborhoods there are plenty of two parent families yet the sons still end up committing crimes and going to prison. I grew up in a poor area and made it out excellent due to having a two parent family. The ones who turned to crime though usually were the child of single moms or had "asshole stepdads". It's not simply poverty because while poverty has a correlation single motherhood has a greater correlation and also correlates with poverty which confounds the numbers you get from looking at poverty alone. Where poverty is found, you oft find single motherhood too. Looking across race lines you find the crime rates are more similar between blacks from fatherless homes and whites from fatherless homes than they are between just poor blacks and poor whites. Poverty is less synonymous with crime in white populations than in black populations, which some interpret to mean there is some kind of systemic racism that can not be specifically identified but simply must exist and be the cause, but remember there is more single motherhood among black populations than white ones, to the point that upward of 70% of all black children are born of unwed mothers. Likewise children born of black fathers and white mothers are more likely to have problems, but then again pairings between black men and white women have an extremely high tendency to end in abuse and/or break up. Contrast this with pairings between black women and white men, which actually have parity meeting or exceeding that seen in white-white couplings. To my knowledge no one has actually studied specifically the children of white-male black-female unions but if they did I doubt the results would deviate from what we'd expect going off of a single motherhood = crime and suffering model. Single motherhood and broken families is the one wholistic answer that actually accounts for the whole picture. And "somebody" knows it too. Barrack Obama tried, one and only one time, to take the stage and tell black fathers to step up and black families to stick together. The response was his near wholesale rejection by the black community and leadership in the black caucuses.
