My grandma was 16-18 when the war ended, she lived in a small town in Germany, 3 of her cousins were in the German military, she showed me one of the rings that her cousins parents were given for service to the Reich, it had a deaths head and nazi emblem on it. Her town got bombed by the allies and she pretty much just coasted out the war and married an American G.I and moved to U.S

My great grandpa was part of the squad that was in Italy fighting the italian fascists. Surviving a long, rigorous winter.

My grandfather wasn't a pussy like yours. He went to Belarus from Berlin on foot. He was a first lieutentant. There he his knee was blasted open by a grenade and was sent back to a hospital in Poland. Then went back. When he retreated, just as he was entering Germany, he was taken as a prisoner of war. He survived, had 2 children, one of them being my mother.

He was never shy or weird telling you exactly what happened. I used to sit on his knee and listen to all of the stories he told about how it was fighting in the war. There are so many, but one thing that really surprised him about Russia was how absolutely primitive the Slavs lived. He couldn't believe it. German, French, Swiss, etc farmers are poor but they have some sort of living standard nonetheless.

He and his troops had to stay in Russian villiage and find accomodation among the locals. He said the rural Russians slept in one room with their animals on top of the oven, straw matresses, everything covered in bedbugs and fleas - basically African nigger tier. They were just filthy and and vermin infested.

Oh one thing that really annoyed him was the myth that Germans destroyed/raped everyone and everything when retreating. He couldn't speak for other troops but he said that was absolutely not the case for his soldiers. They had no interest they just wanted to leave. They were exhausted and at their wits' end.

my grandfather was a sudeten German who volunteered for the kreigsmarine. Spent a few years building u-boats in Hamburg until he was old enough to actually serve. Went on a couple of patrols based out of norway and ended the war apparently working on experimental type XVIII boats. He lost his girlfriend during the bombing of Berlin, came back to his hometown in what was now Czechoslovakia. To punish him for volunteering for military service the soviets sent him to a series of coal and uranium mining camps for a couple of years. He ended up dieing from lung cancer because of that and his smoking habit.

If I ever have kids I'm naming one of them after him for sure.

My ukrainian great grandfather was a border guard on the polish/soviet border. When the germans came in he was taken as a POW for whatever reason.
According to my grandmother he was on a "death march" i think most understand. But they forcw march the prisoners to the point of death.

My other great grandfather was approached multiple times by both germans and soviets to be conscripted into their armies. But somehow managed to get out of it.

It was a bad time living in eastern europe. They left after the war apparently due to fear of reprisals by soviet partisans, who were killing anyone who was sais to have collaborated.

Great grandfather was a bodyguard for Horthy in Hungary. I think he met Hitler but I need to ask my parents again.
His house was bombed by the Germans because Horthy left the alliance, and then he moved to Germany shortly after the war ended with his family. His wife was full of SS men and I believe they all died on the Eastern Front.
My great-grandmother had stories of the Jews that would cut in the bread line and mafia the food from people, and this is where she learned to hate the Jews.

He never once cursed Hitler for what had happened and was deeply saddened by the loss. The Americans treated him like shit and often didn't pay him when he worked on their base. Moved to America and started a taxi company and got quite wealthy. Used to have all his medals and original copy of MK, but my cunt aunt sold a lot of them.

After getting out of high school, I was bored and useless so I decided to join the Army. Before I left for basic training, he sat me down and told me some stories, I was the first person since him in my family to serve.

Eventually I deployed, and my great grandmother died. He never truly recovered from this my mom says. Eventually he tugged our old newspapers, photographs, medals, began talking about it more and eventually had full on flashbacks. He eventually died while I was deployed.

There's a little old German lady who lives in my trailer park. She's always talking about how great Hitler was, because she had to live under the Soviets in East Germany.
