Today's topic is books. Part of the reason that President Trump was elected was that he released a very good book called "The Art of the Deal." If you haven't read it yet, please do- it's great. President Obama also released a book before he was elected called "The Audacity of Hope." It seems that if you want to be president then you had better get busy putting out books so that people can understand where you are coming from. I love books. My favorite book when I was a young man was Siddhartha by Herman Hesse. I have read it many times. At one point in the book the main character has a conversation with Kamaswami the merchant, here's an excerpt-

Afterward, when the merchant learns that Siddhartha can read and write, he hires him and with this Siddhartha is able to continue working toward his goals. This book was the first time I was ever exposed to the ideas of Eastern and Hindu Philosophy. Later, I found The Tao and have even identified myself as a Taoist. The works of Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle are the basis of what is called Western Philosophy. All of these works are taught in high school and college here in the USA. But there is one book that is not taught anymore. It was the first Book. For many years it was the only Book. For some reason, the wisdom contained in this Book has been suppressed in the United States.

When our nation was very young, one of the problems that needed solving was the education of the children. Books, schools, and teachers were rare or nonexistent. The Bible was the book that was used to teach them to read and write. They learned to recite The Lord's Prayer as a way to learn their vowels and consonants. They learned the moral lessons and the histories that all Western countries celebrate as part of their shared cultural roots. You may not be aware, but today is Palm Sunday. It's the day when Jesus Christ rode into the city of Jerusalem on a donkey. It's called "Palm Sunday" because he was greeted by large crowds of joyous people holding palm leaves as a way of welcoming him.
This week is called "Holy Week" because it celebrates his death and resurrection- ending on Easter Sunday which is next Sunday. The Bible doesn't discriminate. There is wisdom to be found inside for everyone- Hindus, Buddhists, Muslims, Catholics, and Atheists. Admittedly, I am a new student to the very large topic of Christianity, but I would ask you to please spend some time this week reading The Bible so that you too can understand the great philosophies, lessons, parables, and prayers that were the cornerstone of our great nation. It doesn't have to be much. Read Luke, chapters 19-24. The story of this Holy Week and Easter Sunday is there.
